Nobody She Knows
Written with Gyan
She leaves the house one morning
Long before the sun is shining
Imagines him waking alone in their bed
No message on the table
Just a half a cup of coffee
The paper upon the stairs still unread
At eight o’clock she’s breathing just a little more easy
At ten o’clock she’s many miles down the line
Now she’s no one
Bound to no one
She’s nobody she knows
At twelve o’clock she’s dozing
Leaning on a perfect stranger
She wakes up to the sound of ‘Show your tickets, please’
She smiles and says she’s sorry
The stranger tells her not to worry
And offers her a coat to cover her knees
And all the empty stations pass by them in conversation
At four o’clock her gentleman bids her goodbye
Now she’s no one
Bound to no one
She’s nobody she knows
And as the shadows lengthen
Stretching to the far horizon
A voice starts calling
Keeps on calling
‘You’re no one
Bound to no one
You’re nobody you know’
