Brighter Day
Written with Troy Cassar-Daley
Snow is lying on the ground
The countryside don’t make a sound
The clouds are hanging way down low
Got no place that I can go
I picked up my guitar today
Held it close and began to play
Looking for a tune again
The one to carry me away
Carry me far from this place
To gaze upon your face
Every night I hope and pray
Calling down a brighter day
More than one mistake I’ve made
And the price I have fully paid
If I had wings so I could fly
I’d swallow all my foolish pride
Spread my wings and fly away
To fields where we would lay
Every night I hope and pray
Calling down a brighter day
Sparks are rising from the fire
I’m making toast on a piece of wire
Drinking from an old tin cup
Now, who knows when their time is up
And when the angels come to call
Knocking at my door
Let them carry me away
And take me to my brighter day
Let them carry me away
To take me to my brighter day
